An Open and Flexible High School Model
At Lab Academy Madrid, we believe that every student’s journey is unique.
Not all young people enter Bachillerato at the same stage of life, nor do they share the same academic, emotional, or social needs. That is why we have created a model with no single point of entry and no fixed, predetermined pathway.
A student may join in the first or second year of Bachillerato, at the start of the academic year or mid-year, and will find an environment that welcomes them and adapts to their circumstances. Our approach is fully individualized: each student progresses at their own pace, completing their program in one year, two years, or however much time is truly needed to consolidate learning and personal growth.
Pedagogical Rationale
Meaningful learning requires flexibility and respect for each individual’s rhythm. A rigid calendar often overlooks differences in maturity, learning styles, or previous academic paths. At Lab Academy Madrid, the curriculum is structured so that students can follow it at their own pace—without losing coherence or academic rigor. This ensures the emphasis remains on understanding the world, thinking critically, and developing transferable skills rather than following a fixed timetable.
Emotional Rationale
Adolescence is a stage of profound change. Many young people face personal, family, or even migratory circumstances that disrupt the continuity of their education. Our model provides a safe and human-centered environment where students can reconnect with their motivation, rebuild self-confidence, and move forward without the pressure of feeling “out of place” for joining late or needing more time.
Social Rationale
We live in a diverse and dynamic world. Preparing young people to understand and transform it requires educational settings that reflect that same diversity and adaptability. By welcoming students at different stages of their academic journey, we create classrooms enriched by varied experiences and perspectives. The coexistence of first- and second-year students naturally fosters peer mentorship, collaboration, and a genuine sense of community.
A Community with Humanity at Its Core
At Lab Academy Madrid, we do not believe that the essence of high school is merely about accumulating knowledge. Our priority is to ensure that every young person finds a place where their humanity is respected, valued, and supported. We aim to educate individuals who can understand the world they inhabit, who are capable of offering solutions, caring for themselves and others, and taking an active role in society.
That is why our model is not measured only in years, subjects, or exams, but in each student’s ability to advance at their own pace and build a personal pathway towards the future.
